Bureau of Energy Efficiency(BEE)

  • Description of Project: ECBC is necessary for improving the energy efficiency and its utilization in the building sector of the State/UT. The directives will ensure construction of energy efficient buildings with reduced electrical energy demand & are expected to consume about 30%-40% less energy than the conventional building. ECBC defines norms of energy performance for various building components, and takes into consideration, the climatic region. The application of these norms lowers the building’s energy requirement without affecting the function, comfort, health or productivity of the occupants.
      • Activities under ECBC Cell:
    • Provides technical assistance for ECBC implementation and enforcement in the state/UT
      Prepare draft ECBC&Develop ECBC Rules in consultation with the stakeholders for notification &enforcement in the state.
      Provide hand-holding support to the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) / SDA / StateGovt. for evaluating ECBC compliance of application submitted for gettingbuilding construction and occupancy permits. Assist in establishing ECBC compliance tools and processes, energy monitoringand verification system. Coordinate with central government, state government departments and urban local bodies (ULBs) departments to enforce ECBC
    • Provides technical assistance to commercial buildings to make them energy efficient
      Identify potential commercial projects in discussion with ULB/SDA/stakeholders in the state and Provide technical assistance by preparing Techno-Commercial Feasibility Report to ensure that the proposed design is ECBC compliant. The report includes Daylight Simulation, Lighting Simulation, Energy Simulation, Sun Path Analysis, Climatic Analysis, Financial feasibility analysis.
    • Organize ECBC awareness and training programmes for building sector stakeholders e.g. architects, engineers, government officials, builders, municipal officials
  • Any recognition/award/mentioning about project in local news: Significant contributions and milestones were achieved, which were indeed acknowledged by the SDA(s) and BEE.

      • - Since the establishment of ECBC Cells, AIILSG and its team have successfully notified the code in the states/UT of Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Tripura whereas Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim are on the verge of notification. Other states/UT are processing code & rules and awaiting approval from the stakeholders to aide notification.

      - Till date, ECBC Cells have organized and conducted more than 80 ECBC awareness and training programmesacross India where thousands of professionals have participated.
